CMYK (which stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and key which is black) is a four-colour printing process. We will be using transparent, cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks. They are the only colours used but because we are making four blocks, where the printed layers overlap, we will also get secondary and tertiary colours too. The blocks will be 6 inches x 4 inches and there will be four for each person. Please bring your own image to work from and try to choose a picture that is relatively simple ( not crucial but easier).
What is important is the colour palette will only be the following in total. Cyan, magenta, yellow, black, orange, green, purple, brown and white (of the paper). The joy with this process is that the blocks do not get gradually destroyed so you can reprint the edition time and time again. We will be using oil-based inks, but they will be cleaned down with vegetable oil, so no solvents needed.
